Hemsedal resort

Hemsedal is Scandinavia’s answer to Alps in southern-eastern Norway. It prides itself on its proper alpine summits, unrivalled skiing and a stillness that wraps itself around you like cotton wool.

Hemsedal is renowned for the glorious natural feeling it can generate, regardless of what kind of skier you are. Here extreme challenges are to be found in all directions. But even inexperienced skiers can venture a long way up the mountain right from the start. It makes them feel good and increases their skill and self-confidence as a skier.

Hemsedal village is a gem with its Tyrolean chalets, foaming tankards and open fires. This is where skyers congregate to enjoy good food, to shop for skiwear or indulge in a little apres ski.

But it’s when you reach the ski field, lying amid a host of mightly peaks, that the alpine atmosphere really makes itself felt. It’s made for passionate skiers, with a vertical drop of 810 metres and lots of long runs. Difficult pistes nearly always lie side by side with a less demanding alternative.

The season is long is Hemsedal. More oftern than not there’s plenty of snow and you can ski anywhere: on dedicated trails, jumps, in the forest and on exciting tracks.

Here you can ski 40 or so runs from three summits. Totten, Scandinavia’s highest alpine peak rising 1,497 metres above sea level, is reached by lift. Right next to it is Hamaren at 1,444 metres, followed by Rogjin, 1,370 metres in height.
You’ll get a lot of skiing in a day. The transfer distances are short and the slopes long and varied. It’s easy to hit a nice rhythm.
