The summers in Saaremaa are filled with different concerts, festivals, etc. Just choose what you like best, and go!
In July, for example, you can waltz through the city to the castle’s courtyard and dance until the early morning at the festival, Saaremaa Waltz.
On the Castle Day, history is presented with re-enactments. The summer begins with a Moat Race, when all sorts of odd rafts can be seen racing around the fortress. The best opera performances in Estonia and from our neighbouring countries are played on the castle yard bandstand on Opera Days. In northern Saaremaa near Leisi, the second biggest beer festival in Estonia, Olletoober, offers competitions of the best home brew and the strongest man on the island. An alternative jazz festival in a farmyard in Muhu gets bigger and better with each year.
The Kuressaare Maritime Days in August celebrate the title and acknowledgment of the city as a health resort. Chamber Musk Days are held in the same month.
Those interested in sports are welcome to Saaremaa in June for the Cycling Tour - the oldest of its kind in the Baltic States. In October, all racers gather to enjoy the Saaremaa Rally.
