Monte Carlo trip

For anyone planning a trip, Monte Carlo is one of these places that’s good to go for the sake of the people-watching, the glitz, glamour, boats and sports cars, but I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s very pretty or beautiful. I’ve never seen so many well-dressed, gorgeous folks cruising around in their Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghini’s, Bentley, SLs, Z4s etc.
Don’t bother with the Grand Casino. We were very unimpressed with it all. The lobby was free to get in and we wandered around that a little and saw the Dali exhibit there. Kind of interesting. If you are looking for reasonable accommodations stay in Nice. It’s just about 13 minutes away by trains. The trains run regularly, about every half hour. If you stay in Nice close to the train you will be further from the beach but located great for train trips.

Where to stay in Monaco, Monte-Carlo

Getting from Nice to Monaco is easy, the hotels in Monaco are not that much more expensive than in Nice and it obviously saves on the transport costs. Monaco is actually not that expensive with some exceptions. If Monaco is truly what you are going for, stay there. The time, cost and aggravation of trying to get back and forth a few times from Nice will far outweigh paying a few bucks extra to stay in Monaco.

The Monte Carlo Beach Hotel, which is just over the border back into France (on the far end of Monaco if you are coming from the direction of Nice). It had a free shuttle that could get you to about the center of Monaco by the casino and from there you could easily take the buses for cheap to see anything. There is no place on the water in Nice!!! If your destination is Monte-Carlo just stay in A Monte-Carlo Hotel. A few suggestions: Monte-Carlo Bay Resort, Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel, Hotel Columbus, another option at the door of Monaco (across the street!!!) is The Marriott in Cap d’Ail (France). If you are on budget, I would advise to try to find a hotel in Beausoleil (which is literally 300 yards from the Casino Square (but in France) with very decent prices at Nice level.

Monte Carlo Casino Dress code

The suitable clothing is required. In the private rooms after 22.00 a jacket and a tie must be dressed. There are a few cafes in “Grand Casino” and around it. This portion of the casino definitely does not have a dress code. The slot machine area of the casino requires no formal dressing but the main area does.

Also many of the popular bars and restaurants like the American bar in the hotel de Paris require you to wear a coat and tie. So I suggest you take some formal clothes. I guess it depends on whether you want to go inside and look at the high rollers.
